Welcome to the May issue of CODAmagazine, where we share the best design + art projects from all over the world. This magazine is published once a month by CODAworx. We’re an online community for artists, design professionals, and industry resources to showcase their work, collaborate with one another, and find the creative resources they need for future projects. Art has been around for a long time, but many contemporary creations are remarkable due to the number of people working together, making projects that require teamwork come to fruition. “CODA” stands for Collaboration of Design and Art, and this unity is an essential part of the manifesto which guides everything we do at CODAworx. More people contributing to projects means more perspectives, more processes, and more skills are involved than ever before. Large-scale projects mixing multiple mediums are becoming more popular, enchanting art appreciators in the physical world and in virtual environments. This month we explored this interconnectedness with the theme Rich Collaborations. Three of my favorite projects selected for this issue are Bee Cave Buzzfest Light Festival, Room Within, and Pattern Shift. The Bee Cave Buzzfest Light Festival entertained attendees with music, light art, dance, and video. By including input from community members and being a presence in multiple locations, Room Within helps make waiting for buses more interesting and inviting. Delicately designed by Miriam Sleeman and Tom Sloan of Tiller Studio, and built with assistance from a team of engineers, Pattern Shift greets shoppers in Hong Kong and can be configured to make new impressions. If you are considering submitting a project to the 10th CODAawards, I encourage you to do so. An awesome jury will review entries in ten categories this year, and the CODAawards Celebration Party! in Denver, Colorado this October is an event I am looking forward to. Winning projects will also be recognized at the Octagon Museum in Washington, D.C with an exhibit in 2023. Keep searching for commonalities, reasons to create, and ways to make friends. You might find a rich collaboration of your own!
