Overview
This 102 ft x 8 ft tall painted mural on containers was created for BikeTexas.org ‘s new permanent home, and part of a much larger project to create a community engagement hub in the heart of East Austin, Which, since my first entry we have activated this amazing space! The mural is positioned on a large piece of land that will become a gathering place not only for bicyclists that ride by but also this space will become a vegan food truck park as well. Painting onto the front of 11 containers set side by side presented a set of unique challenges from preparation to making sure we used the right paint and to get the level of detail with all of the different surfaces such as the poles and handles on each door.
Goals
The goal was to create an engaging mural that the community would feel good about, also to create an iconic piece of work to celebrate the biking community as well and was part of creating a hub for not only bicyclists but also for the community with the addition of a food truck park. Starting this project took a little tenacity because creating something as amazing as a sunset needs to be done right and is one of the most difficult imagery to duplicate in paint vs seeing the real thing, and keeping in mind that this space is actually used, so making the artwork be easily touched up with all of the use these containers will get. and we were creating this colossal monument as the central piece for this space. Yikes! But we did it!
Process
The collaborative process took about 6 months from concept to completion between our studio, BikeTexas and our Clements Paint.
Clements paint was extremely interested in the community aspect of what we were doing and graciously donated a generous portion of our paint needs, as well as provided excellent service and explanation of the paint we were using, which was a direct to metal paint by Benjamin Moore. We were whole team working together and the process of concept to completion was a complete success.

We have had the pleasure of being part of every single part of this process to create an engaging space not only as the headquarters for BikeTexas.org but also transforming this space into a community hub for not only bicyclists but also including a food truck park.
