Overview

Faith XLVII’s mural, inspired by Eirene, the Greek goddess of peace, carries a profound theme that highlights the importance of cultivating a society rooted in open communication and inclusion. Through her artistry, Faith XLVII encourages active engagement in fostering a harmonious and united community. Complementing the mural, Inka Kendzia’s intricate projection art weaves seamlessly with the artwork itself, forming a cohesive narrative that explores borders, immigration, freedom of movement, peaceful protests, government oppression, and the unwavering strength of the human spirit in overcoming these challenges. The symbolic use of the flag amplifies the power of nonviolent protest and negotiation in the relentless pursuit of peace.

Located in the heart of Over-The-Rhine, an adjacent neighborhood to Downtown Cincinnati, the artists’ new collaborative projection-mapped mural holds a prominent position that invites significant foot traffic. Faith XLVII and Inka Kendzia establish a powerful and meaningful relationship between their artwork and the vibrant surroundings of Over-The-Rhine, fostering a sense of shared ownership and collective understanding.

Goals

The project invites the viewer to connect with their humanity and to see themselves as a part of the whole; to feel an interconnectedness between humans and nature, and the fluidity of geographic understandings of place and home.
