Goals

sculpture for lincoln center Broadway NYC I always find great joy in seeing the gesture of audience members throwing bouquets onto the stage at the end of a performance. The flowers take the stage to celebrate. To bring this moment into the public realm is to celebrate and compliment all who view the sculpture.

Process

the 8 sculptures developed for broadway NYC was a collaboration with broadway malls association and MDET curator Anne Stauss. the question was how to integrate and respond to the gardens in the central medium and the seating areas

Additional Information

blooms for Broadway in part because the imagery is accessible to the many different communities of people who would navigate these intersections in their daily lives. People from diverse ethnic/racial backgrounds, economic sectors, occupations, ages, and philosophical orientations can experience wonder and connection in encountering these universal symbols. Further, the series of locations across neighborhoods can promote connection and inclusivity in a space that can otherwise feel impersonal, anonymous, and alienating. The natural forms will offer visual and psychological relief from the roads, traffic, and architecture in which they are situated. They will provide sites of beauty and respite from the built environment.
