Overview

The mural art whimsically portrays the animals found in natural areas around Logan City for the Children’s Area of the new city library. The viewer is attracted at first glance by the unique and engaging interpretation of the various animals in the art created with interconnecting shapes, colors and lyrically curving lines. The mural art is the centerpiece wall, approximately 28 feet wide by 12 feet tall, in the Children’s Area sitting room with three “tree” columns that are enclosed by a low semi-circular bookcase. All of this together offers a visually appealing aesthetic experience creating a warm and welcoming environment for library visitors young and old alike. The mural was designed to complement the library’s interior color scheme for the Children’s Area. “It is important to me that the art I create has a beneficial and uplifting effect on people’s everyday lives while offering a memorable sense of place.” says Traci.

Goals

The City of Logan is nestled in a beautiful mountain valley. The project goals for the Children's Area Mural were to feature nature and the animals found in the surrounding mountains and natural areas where the City of Logan resides.

Process

Traci received the commission after submitting her portfolio to a public art call. After winning the commission she discussed the criteria for the mural with the Logan City Library Director and members of her team. They presented Traci with the architect's rendering and color palette for the interior finishes. Traci then started the initial creative work by conceptualizing, researching, and sketching a visual portrayal of various animals in a natural setting. She presented a color presentation of the finished design direction for the mural which harmonized beautifully with the interior. Traci and her team painted the mural on site with brushes and rollers using high quality interior acrylic latex.
