Overview
Chroma Flow is an evocative perceptual experience using an environment-responsive and interactive lighting system throughout the length of an underpass. The utilitarian space, comes alive with immersive fields of colour which shift throughout the day, in synch with the outside conditions. The overall effect of the light’s movement is like liquid, as if one is moving through an illuminated body of water creating ripples in their wake.Goals
I wanted to use natural colour, instead of the usual over-saturated RGB lighting found in many architectural projects, and bring the iconic colours of the Perth sky into the space. The flow of light reacts to the movement of site traffic, and echoes the flow of the nearby Swan River, as if the wake of a boat - a nod to the historic rowing club nearby.
Process
Studio JT worked directly with Coolon - a Melbourne based lighting manufacturer and Light Application - a Perth based creative programming team to produce a groundbreaking experimental work using new software and custom made luminaires with incredible quality of light and color.
