Overview
Polished stainless steel, mist, light. The “tree” is positioned at the end of a row of real trees, in a busy intersection at MixC World in Shenzhen, China. It is heavily abstracted, and minimal, but then periodically erupts in a diaphanous cloud of mist, forming an organic canopy. A reference to our habit of trying to fabricate nature within an urban environment – how nature can thrive in these circumstances, but only to a limited degree.
Goals
Something natural, yet unnatural - to become a landmark for the site.
Process
The work was commissioned through Art Front Gallery, Tokyo by CR Land. They came to me for an idea specific to this site. My idea was conceptualized and drawn by hand, then 3D modelled digitally to be proto-typed and fabricated by UAP at their facility in Shanghai.
