Overview
Elysium serves as the centerpiece of the newly remodeled underground station at the historic and touristic center of San Francisco. The round backlit element focuses on iconic architecture adjacent to the site, and references the unique "bubble" tile that lines the station's walls. The work serves to enhance the space, bringing light and volume underground, as well as creating a sense of place particular to this important site. The artwork is made up of laminated glass panels with printed interlayers that are backlit with a custom LED system and is framed with powder-coated aluminum. Its impressive 18-foot diameter is sure to leave a lasting impression on anyone who sees it.Goals
Elysium was created to act as a figurative oculus that connects the underground station to the world above. Not only does this give visitors a magical welcome to this district, but it also provides daily commuters with a fresh perspective on their downtown.
