Overview

GSP Airport’s Art program has been designed to complement the terminal’s architecture, to assist passengers with intuitive wayfinding and placemaking, and to celebrate the unique qualities of the region and community. While leading the airport group at Stantec, Stanis Smith led the team that produced the masterplan for this multi-million dollar art program, and then assisted the airport with selecting and commissioning artists. The result has given the airport a unique and differentiated sense of place for the millipons of departing adn arriving passengers every year.

Goals

To make the art program a unique and differentiated one that is specific to the region; to integrate the art with the terminal architecture.

Process

The process involved the production of an art masterplan locating the various different types of art (2D, 3D etc.), developing a series of themes to be used for selecting artists, administering the selection process, and then commissioning the artwork.
