Overview

Horizon (Triptych) 60 W x 72 H x 3 D inches– Acrylic PMMA and Acrylic Mirror
The audience would experience the aura of a sunset as they sit or stand across the oval mirrored relief sculpture. Horizon will allow the viewer to experience the sublime aura and illusionary effect of the sun, with the blue pacific horizon line always present, contrasting the sublime orange hues of California sunsets, constructed in mirrored backgrounds with overlapping translucent acrylic glass forms. The fluorescent material’s edges heighten the variability of visual effects caused by light interacting with the works’ edges, thus activating the space around it and creating a transformative environment.

Goals

The piece was central to the theme of the exhibit : Revelations: Seeing Light

Process

Worked closely with the fabricator provided drawings and instructions on how to create the layered elliptical aura effect.

Additional Information

"Horizon" is a captivating modern abstract piece that mesmerizes with its vibrant palette and dynamic composition. The artwork stands at an impressive 60 inches wide, 72 inches high, and 3 inches deep, making it a substantial presence in any space. Crafted using Acrylic PMMA and Mirror, the work comprises a series of layered, translucent panels arranged with an elliptical aura on a flat surface. A striking transition of colors flows vertically across the panels, moving from deep reds to bright yellows, reminiscent of the enchanting colors that paint the sky during a sunset. This gradient effect not only adds energy and vitality to the piece but also infuses the space with a continuous sense of movement and the serene feeling of watching the horizon as the sun sets. The transparent materials employed in "Horizon" invite an engaging interplay of light and color, imbuing the artwork with a subtle three-dimensional quality that enhances its depth and complexity. This element is particularly effective in drawing the viewer into the heart of the work, encouraging a unique and transformative experience akin to a sunset's unfolding beauty. Through its innovative use of materials and color, "Horizon" creates a compelling visual narrative that is both immersive and ethereal.
