Overview
This 80′ x 6′ community mural was commissioned for Loveland’s state-of-the-art Recycling Center, which accentuates the importance of recycling through iconography, typography, and exposition of animals from 3 different eco-systems that are directly affected by our collective behavior. A segment of the mural was painted over 250+ people over a two day community painting event.
Goals
The goal of this project was to educate the public on the importance of recycling and the impact it has on our eco-systems. The iconography enhances that message by demonstrating the many items that recycled plastic can become, such as toothbrushes, bathing suits, chairs, etc. The overall typographic message reads "Thank you for recycling" on either side and "Together we make a difference" in the center.
Process
This project was a collaboration between the artist team, the City of Loveland, and the Loveland Recycling Center.
Additional Information
The following is a blurb snippet from the city's liaison for this project: "We are all still “in a glow” about Message in a Bottle, the Community Paint event and having spent time with Samantha, Sagan, you and Frank (intern). You all are amazing people and you have left an indelible mark on the community. My heartfelt gratitude to you all. This project exceeded my highest expectations. Thank you, not only for an amazing project but, for such a meaningful connection." —Suzanne Janssen, City of Loveland Public Art Manager
