Overview
Commissioned in 2018 by The City of Glendale (AZ) for Heroes Regional Park Library and completed in 2019. Several artist-designed elements explore iconography of the historical theme, "Neighborhood Roots: Sugar Beets to Cotton and Beyond.” Budget: $200,000 (includes main library terrazzo floor, exterior wall-mounted sculpture, and etched glass entryway) / Dimensions: 9’ x 17.5’ (stainless steel relief sculpture), 74’ x 26’ (terrazzo floor), 15’ x 8’ (printed vinyl mural), 18’ x 14’ (etched glass)Goals
The four integrated art elements that make up the Neighborhood Roots installation celebrate the natural and agricultural history of Glendale and the local Yucca District. Regional iconography includes cotton, sugar beets, poppies, hummingbirds, quail, and dragonflies, among other symbols of the area. The works weave these images, along with other whimsical and ornamental design elements, into an undulating latticework of line drawings that welcome visitors throughout the library’s interior and exterior spaces.
