Goals

The Flower of Light is a light sculpture framed in the program of the magical villages of Valle del Cauca, Colombia. Where the identity of the municipality and its people is highlighted. The Flower of Light seeks to exalt the cultural identity of the community and in its opinion integrated as an element for meeting and tourist attraction. This sculpture has been positioned in the heart of the locals and has generated great tourist interest by unleashing social activities recovering the night space for the community. From a clear psychology of color and using the volumetric offered by light, we managed to generate an inmersive experience where children and adults immerse themselves between sound and light; these elements being the basis of perceived reality.

Process

The design was thought as a giant flower that in the day uses sunlight to transfer color; with hand-painted stained glass , where wave frequencies manifested through cymatica are emulated. 55 unique pieces of hand-painted stained glass windows emulate color and vibration as a manifestation of the shape. All this experience evolves with the transit of sunshine throughout the day. In the night layer we have mapping projection in native optics of 8 degrees bathing a pole that simulates a stem, The luminic projection covers in a cylindrical and volumetric way, pointing layers of the parametric space of the flower, generating lights and shadows that gives the feeling of depth.
With a digital content based on color, we generate geometric and smooth transitions creating a feeling of containment, dynamism and reactivity, in that way , its content becomes very natural and organic. Each pole has a specific inclination depending on the rotation of each ring of the flower. As a parametric sculpture, it emulates the biological progression of physical development.

Additional Information

A connected Color Kinetics lighting system was selected for the project due to the company’s rich legacy for providing robust, reliable, and seamlessly integrated products. Burst Powercore, RGB luminaires (now specified with Burst Powercore, IntelliHue) (64) are mounted 3 m (10 ft) high - at the top of each flower post - to wash the post surfaces and create a volumetric effect throughout the Flor de Luz structure. Color Kinetics iPlayer 3 enables users to create, manage, and display dynamic and colorful light effects, captivating and delighting visitors exploring and interacting with the sculpture. Color Kinetics Data Enabler Pro delivers integrated data and power to the intelligent system.
