Overview
Repeated Refrains is a contemporary mural, stretching 450\' long by 7\' high, crafted using Dreamscape wallcovering and Dibond panels printed with archival UV cured ink, that unfolds over time and space. It presents an exploration of the natural history and environment of Reno and embodies a profound connection with the local terrain and native living things. The installation mirrors the transient, dynamic essence of the natural world. The scale of the mural, with birds, butterflies, and flowers over 5 feet tall, draws viewers into an enchanted, altered landscape for a metaphorical journey.
Goals
The integration of Repeated Refrains at Reno-Tahoe Int’l Airport was aimed to immerse airport visitors in the local natural world, employing rhythm and syncopation of colors and textures. By blending 2D and 3D elements, we broke up the expansive 450-foot wall. Vibrant imagery on the Dreamscape wallcovering formed the mural's foundation, while panels and CNC-cut elements float above the surface to provide rhythmic accents. Utilizing lightweight Dibond aluminum composite panels for the standoffs ensured compliance with weight and depth restrictions, facilitating seamless integration into the overall design.
