Overview

A bas relief 100 feet long of 70 illuminated glass "domes" representing brain "neurons" connected with twisted metal "synapses", programmed to "illuminate and connect with adjacent "domes" at various speeds and in unique patterns".

Goals

The goal was to use artwork as a tool in the creation of a healing environment, based on the idea that art can have a positive effect on the brain, help reduce stress and help to heal patients. It is the larges piece of artwork in a collection curated by Ed Trainin, and fabricated by my team at CustomGlassworks and Design and the team at 3Axis, who created the forms to hold the glass and the metal connections.

Process

I worked with the curator to color and refine designs for individual components of the artwork, with the fabricators of the metalwork and lighting for sizing and placement, and with individual contractors to develop the tooling to execute the glass forms.

Additional Information

The project was more than 2 years in the making, and owes it's success to the entire team that worked on the project. The glass is the feature but, as does any great collaborative effort, reflect the enthusiasm, creativity, and technical skills of all the participants!
