Overview
A giant being emerges from the landscape with giant hands transmitting energy and light for visitors to pass through as you enter and exit the Mojave Moon Desert Ranch oasis in the Mojave Desert just outside Joshua Tree in California.
The giant 30 ft tall forms are made from GFRC (Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete), and mosaicked in a dichroic glass mirror that changes colour depending on the viewing angle.
In the palm of each hand sits a stainless steel crescent moon. With a hollowed out crescent moon in the forehead of the being, so that the desert sky can be seen through the silhouette of the moon.
Goals
The goal was to create both an entrance way to the property, and a giant sculptural work, that both felt natural within the empty desert landscape, and still managed to create a feeling of awe from those who passed through its hands.
