    Help us create a welcoming, relaxed environment that speaks of rural nature and the love residents have for their history and community. The Public Art Program of the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture invites submissions from professional artists to design, fabricate and install an outdoor public artwork.


    Artwork will be located at Kleberg Rylie Recreation Center, 1515 Edd Road, Dallas, TX 75253.


    SCOPE OF PUBLIC ART PROJECT

    Artwork must be responsive to the following guidelines:

    • Artwork must be innovative, highly visible and visually compelling.
    • Artwork must spark curiosity in viewers of all ages tempting them to engage with it
    • Artwork must respond to our community survey and be site-specific
    • Artwork must be of professional quality and enhance the Dallas Public Art Collection at world-class standard
    • Artwork must be suitable for outdoors, require minimal maintenance and be resistant to graffiti and vandalism
    • Artwork must have an expected life span of 20+ years.
    • If seating is part of a design, it must be safe, slip-resistant, and comfortable seating with smooth, even surfaces and curved edges and comply with City of Dallas and ADA requirements.
    • Artwork must be free of safety hazards (no sharp or loose objects).

    ARTWORK GOAL

    The goal is to enhance the community’s experience at the recreation center and its park and splash park through an artwork that conveys commitment to this rural area for generations or speaks of summer fun and makes visitors and staff feel relaxed and welcome.


    ELIGIBILITY

    This call is open to artists and artist teams in the United States. Artist must be at least 18 years of age and have professional fine art qualifications (BFA/MFA). A proven track record of working/exhibiting in the fine art sector for at least 3 years is required. We encourage and support applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds. Artist must be comfortable including a Community Engagement component if selected. Professional liability insurance will be required


    Not eligible:


    • artists currently under contract with the City of Dallas Public Art Program.
    • Employees of the City of Dallas, their spouses, members of the Public Art Committee or Arts and Culture Advisory Commission, or any consultants under contract for any phase of these projects are ineligible.
    • The City of Dallas Cultural Policy does not accept qualifications from undergraduate students for Public Art projects.
